What is the Paleo Diet?

While the term “Paleo” may be one of the biggest diet crazes of our time, we prefer to look past the hype and get straight to the heart of what gave the Paleo diet such a big name and the reason as to why we love it so much.

“Paleo” refers to how our Paleolithic ancestors once lived, long before fast food and refined sugar even existed. This way of living is often confused in the Western World as eating unlimited amounts of meat and fats, when the truth is, a traditional Paleo lifestyle is slightly different to this.

What is the Paleo Lifestyle?

A day in the life of a true Paleo is primarily plant based, with a focus on consuming an abundance of seasonal fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and eliminating all dairy, grains, sugar and processed foods. Wild caught fish and grass-fed organic meats and eggs are an accompaniment, not a main feature. A lifestyle like Paleo, which promotes a high intake of antioxidant rich fruits, vegetables, and whole foods, as well as regular physical activity, is associated with reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, which decreases the risk of illnesses such as Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer. By eliminating grains, dairy, gluten, processed foods and added sugars and filling up on whole foods and healthy fats, the Paleo diet increases satiety and can be beneficial for increased energy levels, weight loss, clear skin, sharper brain function, reduced pain and inflammation in chronic health conditions and the overall awakening of optimal health.
